HCMC – Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam arrived in Paris on October 3 (local time) for the 19th Francophonie Summit in Villers-Cotterêts and a state visit to France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Vietnamese leader was greeted at the Paris-Orly Airport by Didier Migaud, French minister of Justice, and Olivier Brochet, French ambassador to Vietnam.
Vietnam’s participation in the 19th Francophonie Summit, set for October 4 to 5, demonstrates its active engagement in international affairs, multilateralism and global cooperation, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Lam’s visit to France, the first by a President of Vietnam in 22 years, is expected to pave the way for the two countries to enhance the bilateral strategic partnership. Hanoi and Paris are seeking to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, culture, education, and science and technology.
