HCMC – Thuan An Bridge, the longest sea-crossing bridge in the country’s central region, has been technically opened to traffic today, marking a key step in improving coastal connectivity and supporting tourism development.

The Hue City Transport Infrastructure Construction Project Management Board said the bridge entered initial operation after key components, including road surfacing, lighting, railings and traffic signage, were completed.

Some auxiliary works, including sidewalks and drainage systems, remain under construction and are expected to be completed by June 30, the board said.

The coastal road project through Hue City, including the Thuan An bridge, broke ground on March 24, 2022 and was originally scheduled for completion in March 2025. Delays in site clearance extended the timeline.

The first phase of the project carries a total investment of about VND2.4 trillion, with more than VND2 trillion allocated to the bridge construction.

Spanning 2.36 km and measuring 20 meters wide, the four-lane bridge crosses the Thuan An estuary and is designed to accommodate vessels of over 5,000 tons.

Built using reinforced and prestressed concrete, the structure features a hybrid girder and cable system, with its longest span exceeding 200 meters.

Authorities expect the bridge and the broader coastal route to enhance regional transport links and support economic and tourism growth in the Thuan An area and surrounding localities.
