HCMC – Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s export credit agency, announced the opening of a new office in HCMC today, November 28. This move aims to support Canadian businesses to capitalize on Vietnam’s thriving market.

EDC’s new office will work closely with federal, provincial, and non-governmental trade experts, including representatives from Global Affairs Canada, the Canada Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, and the Canada-ASEAN Business Council.

The goal is to provide comprehensive support to Canadian companies at all stages of their export journey to Vietnam.

“Vietnam is now Canada’s largest trading partner within ASEAN, and there is a strong foundation for bilateral trade and investment,” said Mairead Lavery, president and CEO of EDC. “EDC is here to build on this momentum, contributing Canadian talent, goods, and services to Vietnam’s vibrant economy.”

Shawn Steil, Canadian ambassador to Vietnam, underscored the strides made in bilateral trade relations under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

He said EDC brings valuable tools, resources, and expertise that will empower businesses on both sides to confidently engage in cross-border trade. This strategic move reinforces Canada’s commitment to Vietnam and will yield long-term benefits.

According to a statement by EDC, Vietnam’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 presents opportunities for Canadian businesses in sectors such as clean technology, renewable energy, agriculture, advanced manufacturing, and infrastructure.
