VN-Index makes biggest gain in over 3 months

HCMC – Investor confidence in the economic recovery plan today, October 27, helped the benchmark VN-Index of the HCMC market make its largest gain in more than three months.

At the close, the index added 31.39 points, or 2.26%, over the session earlier to close at its intra-day high of 1,423.02 points with winning stocks outnumbering losing ones by 355 to 95. Up to 29 stocks hit their daily ceiling prices.

Turnover on the southern market improved 25% in volume and 35% in value versus yesterday at 936.2 million shares and nearly VND28.4 trillion. Of the total, 78.5 million shares worth VND3.3 trillion were traded in block deals.

Among bank stocks, only MSB inched down slightly, while the remainder closed in the green. CTG was the biggest advancer in the group with a 4.01% increase and saw 19.6 million shares changing hands, followed by STB and VPB, which gained 3.52% and 2.43%, respectively.

As for securities stocks, only TVB and APG slightly declined. Meanwhile, BSI, VND and SSI surged over 4% each, and HCM and VCI rose over 3% each.

Regarding steel stocks, HPG posted the largest rise. It gained 2.84% to its intra-day high, at VND57,900, and saw 28.94 million shares transacted, ranking second on the southern bourse by volume after real estate developer KBC.

There were 31.89 million KBC shares matched. It also jumped from the reference price to its ceiling price, at VND48,000. Both its liquidity and price today were at their all-time highs.

Besides KBC, many other property stocks closed at their ceiling prices, including PTL, NVT, LGL, HAR and DRH. Most of the remaining stocks in the group soared by over 3%-6% each.

In addition, real estate firm VIC and its housing affiliate VHM edged up 3.04% and 2.92% at VND95,000 and VND81,000, respectively, and contributed a total of 5.3 points to the VN-Index.

Fuel distributor GAS, another pillar stock, rocketed to its daily ceiling price and set its new record at VND121,700, contributing four points to the main index. In addition, consumer goods company MSN picked up 5.2% at VND146,800.

The ten major stocks contributed nearly 20 points to the VN-Index today.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added 6.56 points, or 1.65%, at 404.37 points.

There were 152.3 million shares valued at over VND4.1 trillion traded on the bourse, surging 32.2% in volume and 65% in value day-on-day.

Gas firm PVS still led the bourse by liquidity with 17.37 million shares traded. It closed up 6.3% at VND30,500.
