HCMC – Kon Plong District in Kon Tum Province was struck by three earthquakes on January 27, with the largest measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, according to the Vietnam Institute of Geophysics.
The first earthquake occurred at 8:44 p.m. and at a depth of 8.1 kilometers, followed shortly after by two quakes with magnitudes of 2.7 and 3.4 and at similar depths of around 8.1 kilometers. No casualties or damage to properties were reported.
Experts believe the earthquakes are induced seismic events, a phenomenon that has occurred regularly in the region since 2021. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, director of the Vietnam Institute of Geophysics, noted that Kon Tum and Kon Plong lie within a smaller fault zone.
Although the earthquakes have not exceeded a magnitude of 5.0, authorities continue to monitor seismic activity. Local officials and residents have been kept informed of developments.
