HCMC – The Mong Sen Viaduct in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, which has the highest pillars in Vietnam, is undergoing the final phase and will be completed before December 31.
The pillars of this viaduct, which is connected to the Hanoi-Lao Cai Expressway, are 83 meters high, news site VnExpress reported.
The viaduct is 612 meters long with five arches and 14 meters wide with four lanes.
The bridge spans two hills, a hydropower plant and terraced fields in Sa Pa Town. The town’s leaders said it would attract tourists and that the town is planning landscapes under the viaduct.
Work on the viaduct project started on January 3 last year and the final beam of the viaduct was installed on September 29 this year. The main construction of the viaduct has been completed. Some 70 workers are completing the viaduct’s railings and surface.
The project requires an investment of VND450 billion. When in place, it will reduce the distance between Lao Cao City and Sa Pa Town in Lao Cai Province by 2.5 kilometers.
The current road between the two areas is 30 kilometers long and dangerous, causing many traffic accidents. It is known as the three-story slope, said Sa Pa Vice Chairman Tran Trong Thong.
