HCMC – Block 2B of Thai An 2 Apartment Building on Nguyen Van Qua Street in HCMC’s District 12 was put under lockdown this morning, August 1, after a suspected case of Covid-19—a 49-year-old woman who lives on the sixth floor of the block—was discovered.

Before returning to HCMC on July 28, she had visited her mother at Danang General Hospital in Danang City. She made health declarations and had her samples taken for Covid-19 testing a day later.

A representative of the Dong Hung Thuan Ward authority told VnExpress that after being informed of the suspected case last night, the district authorities immediately directed the ward to lock down the block for Covid-19 testing.

During the period of lockdown, the residents of the block have been told not to leave the place and have been provided with essential items, food and necessities by competent forces.

The Thai An 2 apartment building has two blocks, with Block 2B consisting of 15 floors and 116 apartments. Some 320 people of 110 households live in the sealed block.

Since the start of the second Covid-19 wave, HCMC has reported five cases of Covid-19, which are linked to Danang City, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot.

Due to fears over the spread of Covid-19, the city has locked down City International Hospital in Binh Tan District, a residential area in District 8, a hotel opposite Cho Ray Hospital on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Street 10 in Thu Duc District, three houses in Tan Phu District’s Phu Tho Hoa Ward and an alley in District 10.

The Ministry of Health confirmed 12 more locally-transmitted cases of Covid-19 in Danang City and the third Covid-19 death, who is the 499th patient, this morning, August 1.
