HCMC – A new steering committee to carry out the Politburo’s Resolution 68 on private sector development has been established under Decision No. 1186, signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who will lead the committee.
According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung has been appointed standing vice chair of the committee, while Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang serves as vice chair.
The committee includes senior officials from central agencies such as the Central Economic Commission, the Central Commission for Propaganda and Mass Organization, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, deputy ministers from various ministries and leaders from the People’s Committees of key localities, including Hanoi, HCMC, Danang, Can Tho, Hue, and Haiphong.
The committee’s responsibilities include advising the prime minister on key cross-sectoral issues related to private sector development, coordinating efforts among ministries, central agencies, and local governments to implement Resolution 68, and ensuring set goals are achieved.
All committee members, including the chair and vice chairs, serve concurrently with their existing positions. The chairperson holds final decision-making authority on all committee matters and convenes both scheduled and ad hoc meetings as necessary.
The committee will meet quarterly and hold extraordinary meetings when needed. In addition to in-person discussions, the standing agency of the committee is responsible for collecting and consolidating written feedback from members, then reporting to the chair. Depending on specific circumstances and operational requirements, relevant organizations or individuals may be invited to participate in meetings.
