HCMC – A fire broke out at a residential complex in HCMC late Sunday night, killing eight people, including four members of a family. City leaders visited the scene to oversee emergency response efforts.
The blaze started on the ground floor of a building inside Alley 80, Do Doc Long Street, Phu Tho Hoa Ward, in former Tan Phu District, at around 9:30 p.m. on July 6.
Residents reported hearing several loud explosions followed by thick smoke and flames spreading rapidly to the first floor.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident was reported, but the fire claimed eight lives before it could be brought under control.
Among the victims were a couple and their two children: a 40-year-old man from Khanh Hoa Province, his 38-year-old wife from Ninh Binh Province, their 11-year-old son, and 7-year-old daughter. The identities of the remaining four victims, all adults, have not yet been released.
Early this morning, Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc visited the scene to oversee emergency response efforts. He was accompanied by officials from the city’s Fatherland Front Committee and various departments.
Chairman Duoc offered condolences and initial financial support to the victims’ families. He also ordered an urgent investigation into the cause of the fire and demanded that responsibility be determined for any individuals or organizations involved.
