HCMC – A tropical depression moved into the Gulf of Tonkin on Monday morning, unleashing heavy rain and strong winds across the coast of northern Vietnam, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported.

At 7 a.m. this morning, the eye of the tropical depression was located about 135 kilometers southeast of Bach Long Vi Island off Haiphong City, with maximum sustained winds near the center reaching level 6-7 (39-61 km/h), and gusts up to level 9.

It is forecast to move northwest at around 15 km/h, and by early tomorrow morning, it is expected to make landfall in Quang Ninh Province.

By 7 a.m. tomorrow, the center of the tropical depression will be over Quang Ninh and Lang Son provinces, with sustained winds at level 6 and gusts up to level 8.

Throughout the day, it is expected to move north-northwest and gradually weaken into a low-pressure system over the Vietnam-China border area.

Due to the impact of the tropical depression, the waters off southern Quang Tri and the Gulf of Tonkin are experiencing thunderstorms, strong winds of level 6-7 with gusts up to level 9, and waves 2-3.5 meters high.

Vessels operating in these hazardous areas are at risk of facing thunderstorms, squalls, strong winds, and high waves.
