HCMC – The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and HCMC will hold a national-level memorial ceremony in HCMC for residents, frontline healthcare workers, troops and police officers who died of Covid-19 at 7:30 p.m. on November 19.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, November 11, Pham Duc Hai, deputy head of the HCMC anti-Covid authority, said the city had planned a ceremony to pay tribute to those who died of the coronavirus.
The memorial service will be jointly organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the municipal Party Committee at the Reunification Palace in District 1 and other venues in Thu Duc City and districts citywide. It will be broadcast live on television for residents to watch and commemorate the lives lost in the pandemic.
According to Hai, the city had reported over 443,200 Covid cases as of November 10, including over 442,600 locally-infected cases and 541 imported cases.
The city is providing medical treatment for nearly 11,600 cases, with 618 of them being children aged under 16, 232 put on ventilators, and 13 others requiring ECMO support.
The trajectory of the fourth wave of Covid remains unpredictable. Therefore, Hai said that people should continue to comply with anti-Covid measures even even though they were fully vaccinated.
Data of the Ministry of Health showed that the fourth wave of infections induced by the highly contagious Delta variant had left 22,686 people dead by November 10, with more than half of them in HCMC.
