HCMC – If the Covid-19 transmission risk in HCMC increases, the city will consider taking restrictive measures, said city chairman Phan Van Mai.

On the sidelines of the National Assembly’s second sitting on November 12, Mai said the recent spike in new cases in the city over the past few days had been expected as the city had reopened its economy, the local media reported.

Authorities at all levels are keeping a close watch on the developments of the pandemic. Over the past few days, Hoc Mon and Nha Be districts have seen new Covid cases increase.

Under the Government’s Resolution 128 on safely and flexibly adapting to and effectively controlling Covid, the resumption of economic activities must be in line with the developments of the pandemic.

The city is currently at moderate risk of pandemic transmission, while some areas are at high risk. The number of daily new Covid cases has increased and the city will limit activities if needed, Mai said.

He added that the trajectory of the pandemic remained unpredictable in HCMC and other provinces, so residents must be watchful.

The municipal Department of Health has worked out a plan to establish pop-up healthcare stations in wards which will be supported by medical workers from city-level hospitals. The city also has plans to assign graduates from medical schools to those medical stations.
