HCMC – Vietnam attended the signing ceremony of the Board of Peace Charter on ending the Gaza conflict, reaffirming its support for international efforts to promote peace in the Middle East.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the event on January 22 at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump. The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland.

President Trump, along with leaders from 19 countries and territories, signed the charter establishing the Peace Council. Signatories included Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Mongolia.

On the sidelines of the event, Deputy Prime Minister Son held discussions with senior members of the Trump administration. Deputy Prime Minister Son said Vietnam appreciates President Trump’s efforts to advance peace, cooperation, and global prosperity, and expressed Vietnam’s readiness to join the Board of Peace as a founding member.

He noted that Vietnam looks forward to coordinating with other council members to implement the Gaza Peace Plan, which was adopted by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025. Vietnam supports sustainable peace in the Middle East based on its consistent position on the Palestinian issue, in line with international law and the UN Charter.

Deputy Prime Minister Son conveyed greetings and appreciation from Party General Secretary To Lam to President Trump for his continued support for the development of Vietnam–U.S. relations and for backing a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam. He also extended an invitation from Vietnam’s top leadership for President Trump and his spouse to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

U.S. officials reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Vietnam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a more substantive and effective manner, including efforts to move forward with negotiations on reciprocal tariffs.

The U.S. side welcomed Vietnam’s decision to become a founding member of the Board of Peace and said President Trump would arrange a visit to Vietnam when conditions permit.

During the trip, Deputy Prime Minister Son also met Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, foreign ministers from Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia, and the Peace Board’s senior representative, Nickolay Mladenov, a former UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, to discuss potential areas of cooperation.

International partners welcomed Vietnam’s participation in the Board of Peace, expressing confidence that Vietnam’s foreign policy approach, historical resilience, and experience in post-war recovery would contribute positively to peace efforts in the region.
