Pressures on construction materials

Although National Assembly (NA) deputies late last month voted to approve the mid-term public investment plan for 2026–2030, concerns remain about the mounting pressure on the supply and pricing of construction materials for public investment projects “Currently, public investment stands at VND3 quadrillion, yet there is already a shortage of essential materials such as steel, sand, and stone. With the investment set to rise to VND8.2 quadrillion, the situation is expected to become even more strained,” said NA Deputy Tran Hoang Ngan. At the closing session of its first sitting on April 24, 2026, the 16th National Assembly approved a resolution on the mid-term public investment plan for 2026–2030. The total investment for the next five years amounts to VND8.22 quadrillion, comprising VND3.8 quadrillion from the central budget and VND4.42 quadrillion from local budgets. Of the central budget, VND717 trillion has already been allocated in detail, while the remaining VND2.7 quadrillion will be distributed by the Government after ministries, sectors, and localities complete assessments of socio-economic plans in line with Conclusion 18, issued on April 2, 2026, by the Party Central Committee.
