Russia presents 100,000 Sputnik Light doses to Vietnam

HCMC – The Ministry of Health yesterday, December 29, received 100,000 doses of the Sputnik Light Covid-19 vaccine donated by Russia to support the Covid fight in Vietnam.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, thanked the Russian Government, saying that Russia’s timely support was meangingful to the Vietnamese Government and people during the pandemic. It also proved the solidarity and friendship between the two nations, as well as the two sides’ mutual desire to bring the pandemic under control.

Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko said, “We hope this vaccine batch will help protect the health of Vietnamese people. The Vietnamese Ministry of Health will complete procedures to register for the vaccine.”

Sputnik Light is being widely used in Russia and more than 20 countries in the Covid-19 booster vaccination program. Further, the Russian Ambassador added that Russia is willing to transfer technology to produce the vaccine to Vietnam.

In response, Deputy Minister Thuan said the Health Ministry expected the Sputnik Light vaccine would soon be authorized for emergency use in Vietnam. The ministry will effectively use the donated doses.
