HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Long An has reported its first Omicron-infected case who was sent into quarantine after arrival, the provincial Department of Health said today, January 12.
The patient is a Chinese expert, aged 57, working at a firm in Duc Hoa District in the province, the local media reported.
He is stable and has shown no symptoms, according to the provincial department.
Earlier on December 24, 2021, he flew from Uganda to Doha and entered Vietnam through the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC a day later.
After his arrival, the expert was taken to a hotel in Ben Luc District in Long An Province for quarantine. He tested positive for Covid on December 31 last year.
On January 8, he underwent the third PCR Covid test that came back negative for the disease.
However, his samples sent to the HCMC Pasteur Institute for genetic sequencing on January 1 showed that he was infected with Omicron, the Long An Center for Disease Control said after receiving the result from the institute on January 10.
The patient is still under quarantine at the hotel, and his health will be monitored for 21 more days.
