HCMC – The northern province of Bac Giang reported six new locally-infected cases of Covid-19 today, August 19, after over a month seeing no new infections, according to the provincial government.

Among these six fresh cases, the first patient is a local man from Le Loi Ward of Bac Giang City. He works at the provincial Police Department, reported Thanh Nien newspaper.

The provincial anti-Covid-19 steering committee decided to lock down and disinfect areas linked to the patients. The local competent forces are tracing the contacts of the confirmed cases.

Bac Giang used to be the biggest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam during the fourth wave, which began in late April.

Up to now, Bac Giang has reported 5,780 infections, with seven active cases now under treatment in the provincial General Hospital and another one being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi. Some 1,070 others are under quarantine.

HCMC is currently the country’s biggest Covid-19 hotspot with nearly 160,000 cases.
