HCMC – The landslide at Bai Gio Tunnel in Khanh Hoa Province, which caused a disruption along the North-South rail line for over a week in April, resulted in VND50 billion damage for the railway sector.
The landslide caused a disruption on the Hanoi-HCMC railway route from 12:45 p.m. on April 12 to 6:30 p.m. on April 21, leading to the closure of the rail section between Hao Son station in Phu Yen Province and Dai Lanh station in Khanh Hoa Province, said local media reports.
According to the Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR), the damage resulting from the Bai Gio Tunnel incident were estimated at over VND50.45 billion, with VND3.66 billion for the incident response. The direct damage cost totaled more than VND18.76 billion, while the revenue losses resulting from the incident amounted to VND28 billion.
During the 10-day disruption, around 30,100 passengers were transported by car between Gia station in Khanh Hoa and Tuy Hoa station in Phu Yen.
About 11,700 tickets were refunded due to the incident, and numerous freight trains had to halt operations, resulting in the transfer of hundreds of thousands of tons of goods via alternative transportation methods.
