HCMC – Fifty-two cooperation agreements between Vietnamese and Chinese universities were signed on April 14, focusing on training, research, and technology transfer.

The deals were announced at a Vietnam–China forum on higher education, science, technology and innovation held at Tsinghua University, during the state visit of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam to China from April 14 to 17. The event gathered about 100 universities and several businesses from both countries, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).

Vietnam’s Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that higher education institutions are taking on a broader role in the knowledge economy, contributing to innovation and national competitiveness. He noted that trends such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, semiconductors, green growth, and sustainable development are driving demand for stronger international cooperation.

Son added that Vietnam and China have conditions to become strategic partners in developing knowledge and innovation ecosystems.

The signed agreements target high-quality workforce training, joint scientific research, and technology transfer.

For future cooperation, the Vietnamese side proposed establishing joint research centers in key technologies, strengthening two-way technology transfer, and expanding university–industry training programs. Other priorities include supporting student startups and promoting internationalization and digital transformation in higher education.

Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam proposed making science, technology, innovation and education new pillars of Vietnam–China relations.

At a forum on higher education, science, technology and innovation cooperation jointly organized by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, To Lam urged stronger substantive cooperation and expanded academic exchanges to reinforce the foundation of bilateral ties. He said Vietnam aims to make science, technology, innovation and digital transformation key drivers to achieve strategic development goals by 2030 and 2045
