HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre exported 22 million coconuts to major markets such as the U.S., Japan, the EU, and South Korea in the first nine months of this year, according to the Ben Tre People’s Committee.
Ben Tre currently exports over 100 coconut-based products to 100 countries and territories. The province aims to further develop concentrated coconut production areas and enhance its value chain, with a focus on maintaining exports to China.
In September, Chinese authorities inspected 13 coconut planting areas in Ben Tre, and approval for fresh coconut exports to China is expected in October.
The province has 133 designated growing areas covering 8,400 hectares, involving more than 12,800 households in coconut production.
Ben Tre aims to achieve export revenue of US$1.7 billion in 2024, with coconut exports contributing US$500 million, according to Nguyen Van Be Sau, director of the Ben Tre Department of Industry and Trade.
The province’s total export revenue for the first nine months of 2024 increased by 14% year-on-year to over US$1.2 billion. Ben Tre’s export markets have expanded to 130 countries and territories across Asia, the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and Africa.
