HCMC – China remains the largest market for Vietnam’s agricultural products, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Durian and dragon fruit are among the most popular Vietnamese agricultural products in China, according to He Yadong, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce.

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of 2024 totaled US$3.33 billion, up by 24.3% over the same period in 2023. Exports to China alone accounted for US$2.1 billion, or 64% of this total. Durian exports to China surged by 46% year-on-year to US$1.22 billion, and representing 92.4% of Vietnam’s total durian export value.

Cassava products have also been the strong export performer, with 1.38 million tons valued at US$630.29 million shipped in the first half of 2024. China is the largest market for these products, accounting for 87.88% of the volume and 88.52% of the value, with 1.26 million tons worth US$579.05 million.

While China is not yet a leading market for Vietnamese coffee and pepper, demand is on the rise. China’s coffee imports from Vietnam surged to US$41.28 million in the first half of the year, according to Chinese customs data reported by the Government news site (baochinhphu.vn).

Bilateral trade between China and Vietnam has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by increased cooperation in various sectors. China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner, and Vietnam has become a key destination for Chinese investment, particularly in renewable energy projects such as wind and solar power.

He Yadong said that China plans to further enhance trade and investment ties with Vietnam, focusing on high-quality agricultural products and industrial goods. Both countries are also working to strengthen supply chain cooperation, particularly in industrial zones and local markets.

China and Vietnam are expected to accelerate negotiations on the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0 and leverage the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to boost regional economic integration.
