HCMC – Coca-Cola Vietnam hosted the “Informal Waste Workers’ Health and Occupational Safety Day” at the Coca-Cola EKOCENTER in Danang City to enhance the safety and well-being of informal waste workers.
The event was co-organized on October 5 by Coca-Cola Vietnam and The Collector Network (TCN), a social initiative under ReForm Plastic. It saw the participation of Chris Vanloon, chairman of AmCham Danang, and leaders from Lien Chieu District and Hoa Minh Ward.
This event aimed to provide comprehensive training in waste collection skills and knowledge, health assessments, and the distribution of essential health and first-aid protective equipment to 230 waste collectors, mainly women in Danang City.
In her address to the event attendees, Karen So, managing director of Swire Coca-Cola, said: “We highly appreciate The Collector Network’s innovative and effective solutions in supporting workers within the informal waste management sector. We hope our partnership will enhance the safety and well-being of those individuals who diligently ‘give back life’ for waste.”
The partnership between Coca-Cola Vietnam and The Collector Network aims to implement comprehensive solutions to support workers in the waste management sector in the city and increase the number of supported workers through The Collector Network from 650 people to 850 people by the end of 2023.
It also includes the provision of welfare packages, the organization of support events, and efforts to increase public awareness of the crucial contributions made by informal waste collectors to society.
The Collector Network (TCN) was established by ReForm Plastic in 2022 with the objective of addressing the needs of the informal waste sector while strengthening and deepening the impact for this vulnerable group.
