HCMC – Authorities in Dak Nong Province will determine the site clearance boundary for the Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh expressway on February 14, a key step in advancing the project, the provincial Department of Transport said.
The land transfer will enable investors and local officials to begin land clearance and assess the impact on existing bauxite reserves within the project area.
The expressway is part of the western parts of the North-South Expressway project, which runs from Gia Nghia in Dak Nong Province to Chon Thanh in Binh Phuoc Province.
The project has encountered delays due to an overlap between the planned expressway route and Dak Nong’s bauxite mining area. The department has requested the People’s Committee of Dak Nong Province to seek guidance from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on resolving this issue.
Land clearance is set for completion by July this year, but a late-2024 decision to shift an 8-kilometer highway section westward has slowed preparations. The intersection with the Ho Chi Minh Highway has moved from Nham Co Commune to Kien Thanh Commune. Local authorities are still drafting compensation and resettlement plans.
The National Assembly approved the Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh expressway under Resolution No. 138/2024/QH15 on June 28, 2024. The 128.8-km road runs through Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong provinces and requires more than 1,110 hectares for land clearance, including 261 hectares in Dak Nong.
The project has a total investment of VND25.54 trillion. It is scheduled for completion in 2026 and expected to be operational in 2027. Authorities are working to resolve regulatory and logistical challenges to stay on track with the timeline.
