HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has asked the Ministry of National Defense for help to cope with excessive workloads at automobile registration and inspection centers, especially those in Hanoi and HCMC.

The Ministry of Transport proposed the vehicle registration and inspection facilities under the Ministry of National Defense support the understaffed vehicle registration and inspection centers under the management of the Transport Ministry.

The proposal was signed by Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang and sent to the Minister of National Defense, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

If approval is forthcoming, the Ministry of Transport will coordinate with the relevant units under the Ministry of National Defense to map out a plan to use this latter’s auto inspectors and inspection centers to test auto vehicles.

Since the end of 2022, the police have detected many irregularities at auto testing and inspection centers nationwide. More than 400 leaders and employees of 68 such centers have been charged with bribe brokering, giving and taking; and falsifying documents. Meanwhile, 72 of 281 centers have been suspended from operations.

This situation has led to the operational auto inspection centers being overwhelmed with excessive workloads, especially in HCMC and Hanoi. Many vehicle owners have to wait days or travel to other provinces for testing.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transport sent the Prime Minister a number of solutions to the situation. One of the proposed solutions is to mobilize vehicle inspectors of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense.

As of March 13, 50 traffic policemen under the Ministry of Public Security had been mobilized for auto inspection centers in Hanoi and HCMC. Today, March 15, the Traffic Police Department will provide over 100 more traffic policemen for these two cities to support auto testing.
