Domestic gold prices at record highs, U.S. dollar steady

HCMC – Domestic gold prices soared to new highs this morning, October 1, with SJC-branded gold bars adding VND1.2 million per tael to reach VND138 million on the selling side.

As of 9:00 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Doji listed their gold bars at VND136 million for buying and VND138 million for selling, while Phu Quy quoted them at VND135.2 million and VND138 million. All three dealers raised their prices by VND1.2 million per tael from the previous adjustment on the afternoon of September 30.

Gold ring prices also followed the upward trend. At Phu Quy, they were quoted at VND131.5 million for buying and VND134.5 million for selling, up VND400,000 per tael from the previous session. However, Bao Tin Minh Chau lowered its gold ring prices by VND300,000 to VND131.4 million for buying and VND134.4 million for selling.

The buy-sell spread remained wide, with SJC gold bars showing a gap of VND2-2.8 million per tael, while gold rings recorded some VND3 million per tael.

On the global market, gold hovered around US$3,875 per ounce, equivalent to VND123.5 million per tael, still VND14.5 million lower than domestic prices when converted at Vietcombank’s exchange rate.

This morning, the State Bank of Vietnam set the central exchange rate at VND25,187 per U.S. dollar, unchanged from yesterday. Commercial banks also kept their rates steady, with selling prices quoted at VND26,446 per U.S. dollar.

Within the 5% trading band, Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,196 for buying and VND26,446 for selling. BIDV listed it at VND26,240-26,446, VietinBank at VND26,246-26,446, and Eximbank around VND26,210-26,446.
