Dong Nai achieves highest vaccination rate

HCMC – The southern province of Dong Nai has achieved the highest Covid-19 vaccination rate in Vietnam, said a local health official today, November 15.

The official said 87.8% of eligible people in the province had got their second shots of Covid vaccines.

According to the provincial Health Department, the province has administered over 4.9 million doses to adults 18 and older. Of them, more than 2.74 million people have received their first shots and over 2.17 million people have been fully vaccinated.

With the second-dose rate of 87.8%, Dong Nai has surpassed HCMC, where 82.2% of eligible people have been fully inoculated, Hanoi with 79.42%, and Binh Duong with 71.92%.

As for the province’s vaccination campaign for children, it has given the first dose to over 112,000 of nearly 300,000 children aged 12 to 17, or equivalent to 38.4% of the children in this age group, according to Phan Huy Anh Vu, director of the provincial Health Department.

The health official added that the province is speeding up its vaccination rollout to get 100% of residents aged 12 and older fully vaccinated.

In related developments, localities in the province are ramping up the establishment of pop-up healthcare stations. There are 171 operational pop-up medical stations in localities and 21 others in industrial zones.

The province yesterday reported 229 fresh Covid cases and one more death linked to the coronavirus. Further, 13,200 patients are under quarantine and medical treatment at home, local quarantine centers and hospitals. Over the past week, the province has reported more than 5,400 new infections.
