HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap held a ceremony on May 7 to announce the first shipment of lotus roots to Japan, marking a milestone in introducing the product to one of the world’s most demanding markets.
The announcement took place as part of the second Lotus Festival in 2024 held in Dong Thap Province.
Nguyen Minh Thien, representing Dai Viet Lotus Foods JSC, the exporting company, said that the shipment comprises 15 tons of lotus roots valued at around VND980 million.
This year the company has ambitious plans to export eight containers of lotus products to Japan, with an estimated total value of nearly VND7 billion.
Dong Thap has 1,800 hectares of land under lotus cultivation, with output of 5-7 tons per hectare. Particularly noteworthy is the lotus cultivation model covering three hectares in Truong Xuan Commune, Thap Muoi District, which meets the stringent criteria for export to international markets.
