- Party chief urges connectivity between downtown HCMC and Long Thanh airport
- Long Thanh airport set for commercial launch in late 2026
HCMC – An expressway linking the Ho Tram urban area and Long Thanh International Airport has been proposed under an urgent framework to boost regional connectivity and ensure efficiency for the airport’s operations.
The HCMC Department of Construction has asked the People’s Committee of the city to initiate investment procedures for the Ho Tram-Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway, proposing it be treated as an urgent project requiring immediate implementation, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Masterise Long Thanh-Ho Tram Expressway Infrastructure JSC completed its initial project proposal in mid-March 2026, the department said.
Relevant departments are currently reviewing the company’s proposal. The route is expected to pass through Tan Thanh, Kim Long, Ngai Giao, Nghia Thanh, Binh Gia, Xuan Son, Ho Tram and Xuyen Moc.
It will start at the intersection with Beltway 4 and Provincial Road 991, and end at Provincial Road 994, a coastal route linking Vung Tau and Binh Chau. The route will span about 42 kilometers and have at least six lanes.
Preliminary investment is estimated at around VND51 trillion, with the project planned for full build out in a single phase, including seven interchanges at Beltway 4 and Provincial Road 991, National Highway 56, Provincial Roads 996, 997 and 998, National Highway 55 and Provincial Road 994.
A six-kilometer section crossing the Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu forest will be built as an elevated structure.
The project is targeted for completion by 2027, but the city’s Department of Construction said meeting the timeline set under the city’s action program would be challenging. It added that classifying the project as urgent is necessary to shorten the implementation schedule.
Several major national infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity are being accelerated, including the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway and the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway, both due for completion in 2026, and Beltway 4, expected in 2028.
Authorities said the Ho Tram-Long Thanh airport expressway is needed to link these key projects and ensure efficient operations at Long Thanh International Airport.
