HCMC – In the local market, mainly in the cities and provinces of the southern region, farm produce prices are heavily dependent on export activities, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan.
Fielding questions about farm produce consumption at a question-and-answer session of the ongoing National Assembly’s (NA) sitting today, June 8, Minister Hoan said exports had caused the volatility of domestic prices of agricultural products.
The ministry is stepping up efforts to remove technical obstacles and open a wider door for formal exports to bring various agricultural products to big and potential markets, he said.
Besides, the ministry has teamed up with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to help firms ease the financial burden on input materials.
In the coming months, the ministry will offer policy incentives to firms which invest in manufacturing organic agricultural products, while studying the use of alternative materials to lower input costs.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that the country’s agriculture sector is growing strongly, with big gains in domestic consumption and export, the local media reported.
According to the minister, to sustainably develop the agriculture industry, it is imperative to change agricultural production into an agricultural economy toward high effectiveness.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh put forth some solutions to agricultural growth, including reforming agricultural business and production steps and establishing large-scale farming areas.
Farmers should boost the use of technology to produce clean and high-quality products to meet domestic demand and international standards for export.
