HCMC – The HCMC health authority has approved Field Hospital 5D’s proposal to suspend admitting new Covid-19 patients starting from October 26 as the pandemic has been basically put under control, leading to a sharp fall in new hospitalizations.
The field hospital was put into operation on August 1 to receive and treat Covid patients in HCMC and neighboring Binh Duong Province, two major coronavirus hotspots in Vietnam, during the fourth wave of infections.
In a span of over three months, it admitted nearly 5,700 patients, with over 2,000 of them from HCMC and the rest from Binh Duong. Most of them recovered from the disease and were discharged from the hospital, while five died of the coronavirus.
A report from the hospital showed that it has recorded no new hospital admissions since October 17 and also discharged all the patients who recovered as of October 25.
Accordingly, the HCMC Health Department said it gave the green light to the hospital’s proposal and asked the hospital to coordinate with the relevant agencies to conduct handover procedures as well as other tasks in line with the prevailing regulations.
Medical workers and staff will continue to self-quarantine at the field hospital for one week and disinfect the hospital and its equipment. They are expected to leave the hospital on November 3.
