HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre held an inauguration ceremony for its first wind power plant yesterday, November 28.

Work on the V1-3 Ben Tre wind farm with seven turbines started in April last year. The VND1.5 trillion facility, which was developed by the Ben Tre Renewable Energy JSC, has a capacity of 30MW.

The plant is expected to generate 105 million kWh of electricity annually. In the first 14 years of operations, the facility could contribute more than VND20 billion to the State budget a year.

The province currently has 19 wind farm projects under construction. By the end of this year, the projects will develop a total capacity of 150 MW.

According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, from 2015-2020, the province received the green light from the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop wind farms with a total capacity of over 1,000 MW.

In 2022 and the following years, Ben Tre is set to implement 17 other projects with a total capacity of over 917 MW. Further, the province has proposed adding 26 more projects whose total capacity is 6.400 MW.
