HCMC – The police have filed charges against three officials at State-run Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and two others at the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, for allegedly abuse of power while on duty.
The arrests come as the police are conducting an investigation into violations detected at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and agencies in several provinces and cities, To An Xo, spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), said today, November 4.
At EVN, the MPS’ Investigation Security Agency detained Nguyen Huu Khai, Do Ngoc Tuyen and Truong Hoang Dung. All of them are members of the Electric Power Trading Company, a subsidiary of EVN.
The police also arrested Tran Quoc Hung and Trinh Van Doan, who are working at the ERAV under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Xo said the investigation is ongoing.
The Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSE) previously recommended reprimanding the leadership of EVN for the power outages that hit northern Vietnam in the summer this year.
The World Bank estimated the blackouts in northern Vietnam in May and June resulted in a US$1.4 billion loss.
