HCMC – Nguyen Tu Quynh, former chairman of the northern province of Bac Ninh, has been placed in custody on alleged charges of bribes in connection with the Advanced International JSC’s (AIC) construction bidding scandal.

On January 19, Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), announced that the Police Investigation Agency decided to file charges against Nguyen Tu Quynh, 65, and placed him in custody.

This action is related to allegations of his taking bribes in connection with the construction tender scandal involving AIC.

The fraudulent activities have significantly breached bidding regulations, resulting in severe consequences for the management board overseeing the healthcare construction project in Bac Ninh Province. The case is currently under investigation to assess the full extent of the violations and their impact.

In connection with the charges, the investigation agency has also levied accusations against Nguyen Tien Nhuong, former vice chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, for alleged abuse of power while on official duties.

Nguyen Hanh Chung, former director of the Provincial Department of Health and current vice chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Council, is facing charges of receiving bribes.

The prosecution decision also serves on Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, former chairwoman of AIC for her involvement in offering bribes in the medical equipment bidding scandal. Her whereabouts, however, remains unknown.

Nhan, Quynh and the above-mentioned individuals are facing charges as the police are expanding an investigation into a bribery case linked to the Dong Nai General Hospital project and AIC, according to the spokesperson of the MPS.
