Former Coast Guard Commander arrested for alleged embezzlement

HCMC – The Criminal Investigation Agency under the Ministry of National Defense has arrested former Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard Nguyen Van Son and several other high-ranking officials on alleged charges of asset embezzlement.

Former Political Commissar of Vietnam Coast Guard, Lieutenant General Hoang Van Dong was also apprehended for the same charges, the local media reported.

Also detained were Major General Pham Kim Hau, former deputy commander of the guard; Major General Bui Trung Dung, former deputy commander; Major General Doan Bao Quyet; Colonel Nguyen Van Hung and Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Bui Van Hoe, the ministry said today, April 18.

On October 1, 2021, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat stripped Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Lieutenant General Hoang Van Dong, Major General Pham Kim Hau, Major General Bui Trung Dung and Major General Doan Bao Quyet of all their Party posts.

On October 22 last year, the prime minister decided to dismiss Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son from the post of Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, while other high-ranking officials faced the same fate.
