HCMC – The 128.8-kilometer Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh Expressway, of which the National Assembly recently approved construction, will be opened to traffic in 2027.

The project will get off the ground this year and be largely completed by 2026 with a total investment of over VND25.5 trillion.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man has signed Resolution 138/2024/QH15 authorizing investment in this section of the Eastern North-South Expressway, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The expressway section will connect Gia Nghia City in Dak Nong Province and Chon Thanh Town in Binh Phuoc Province.

It will be divided into five components. The first component will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP), specifically a build-operate-transfer contract. This model includes investment guarantees and a revenue-sharing mechanism as outlined in the PPP investment law.

The project will require more than 1,100 hectares of land and a total investment of VND25.54 trillion. Construction will begin this year and be mostly completed by 2026.

Once operational, the expressway will link the Central Highlands with the southeast region, including Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong, and extend to HCMC. This connection is expected to boost regional economic activity, including tourism, processing industry, and mineral mining, aiding in the economic restructuring of the Central Highlands.
