HCMC – The Government has directed the Ministry of Construction to issue regulations requiring the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in residential and commercial buildings in cities by the end of December.

This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to promote green energy and reduce carbon emissions.

This instruction was made following a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, focusing on green transportation and the development of EV charging infrastructure, according to the Government Office.

Also, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is told to revise Decision No. 28/2014/QD-TTg, which sets the framework for retail electricity tariffs. The updated regulations are expected to introduce new pricing mechanisms that support the operation of EV charging stations.

In addition, the Ministry of Construction will collaborate with other ministries, including Public Security, Industry and Trade, and Transport, as well as Hanoi City and HCMC, to ensure that urban planning integrates public EV charging stations. Guidelines for these requirements are expected to be released by August.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Science and Technology has been tasked with setting standards for EV charging equipment, such as plugs and cables, with a deadline for completion by the end of August.

This initiative underscores Vietnam’s commitment to transitioning to green energy, reducing carbon emissions, and fulfilling its international climate commitments.
