HCMC – As Ke Go Reservoir in the north-central province of Ha Tinh is discharging 900 cubic meters of floodwaters per second, the provincial government evacuated over 46,000 local residents to ensure their safety.
Tran Tien Hung, chairman of the provincial government, this morning, October 19, urged leaders of Cam Xuyen and Thach Ha districts and Ha Tinh City to mobilize forces and vehicles to aid the evacuation.
Nearly 15,000 households in the three localities affected by the flood discharge were evacuated. Of these, Cam Xuyen District has 13,300 households with 43,200 residents being subject to the evacuation, Thach Ha District with 1,420 households or 2,685 residents and Ha Tinh City with 263 households and 701 people.
At around 10 a.m. today, October 19, the reservoir was discharging 900 cubic meters of floodwaters per second. The figure is expected to rise further.
Competent forces including the provincial police, military and border guard officials and the province’s Transport Department were asked to join hands with the local authorities to carry out the evacuation and ensure public security at evacuation sites. They were requested to evacuate residents as scheduled and make sure they do not return to their houses until the floodwaters ebb.
According to the provincial Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Ha Tinh is forecast to see heavy rain from now till tomorrow, October 21, with rainfall measuring 300-500 millimeters.
