HCM – HCMC has earmarked more than VND34 billion to install nighttime architectural lighting at a series of iconic cultural landmarks, in an effort to highlight the city’s historical value and enhance its modern, pedestrian-friendly nighttime landscape.

According to the HCMC Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, the city is accelerating work on architectural lighting systems at a number of conserved structures. These include the Thu Ngu Flagpole, Mong Bridge, the HCMC Children’s House, Ben Thanh Market, the HCMC Museum and the Ton Duc Thang Museum.

The projects, fully funded by the city budget with a total of over VND34.4 billion, feature large-scale installations, particularly at Mong Bridge. The bridge will be fitted with 414 artistic LED fixtures, 200 meters of LED strips and 12 decorative lamp posts. The lighting concept incorporates multiple layers to accentuate the bridge’s architectural details, such as RGB color-changing LEDs along the railings and decorative lighting along pedestrian pathways.

The artistic design follows the principle of “beautiful lighting without glare,” prioritizing high-quality LED technology and concealed fixtures integrated into the structures. Warm and cool white shades are used depending on each area’s aesthetic and historical context.

During construction, the investor is coordinating with relevant agencies to minimize disruption to daily activities by providing advance notices, limiting noise, working at night, installing temporary barriers and using low-vibration equipment.

The municipal Department of Culture and Sports said the architectural lighting initiative is expected to help preserve and elevate the city’s symbolic landmarks while creating a modern nighttime landscape that harmonizes heritage conservation with contemporary creativity.
