HCMC – Le Hoa Binh, standing vice chairman of the HCMC government, has directed the relevant units to implement a renovation plan for the Ben Thanh Market, one of the famous landmarks in the southern city.
The funding for the renovation project will come from private sources, Thanh Nien newspaper reported.
The vice chairman recently approved in principle the TA Landscape Company’s proposal to renovate the market. He asked the city’s industrial and civil construction investment projects management board to coordinate with the company, which serves as the design consulting unit for the project, to execute a more detailed renovation plan and submit it to the municipal government before February 28.
The unit was told to establish the total number of stalls and vendors at the market and which facilities would need replacement, repairs, or renovation.
They also have to collect feedback from the municipal departments of Planning and Architecture, Construction, Industry and Trade, and the relevant units to complete the renovation plan.
Ben Thanh Market, located in downtown HCMC, is one of the favorite shopping destinations in the city for tourists. It was built in 1912, covering an area of over 13,000 square meters.
