HCMC – HCMC hosted a reception today, August 29, to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2), with senior city officials, consul generals and representatives of foreign business chambers attending.
In his opening remarks, Phan Van Mai, chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said that by 2030, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam looks to become a developing country with modern industry and achieve a high middle-income status. By 2045, on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the nation, Vietnam aims to become a developed country oriented towards socialism, he noted.
Regarding the socio-economic development of HCMC, Mai said that the city’s economic size has more than doubled compared to 10 years ago.
The city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first six months of this year amounted to VND567 trillion, growing nearly 6.5% against the same period last year, the highest growth rate in three years, he said.
The city, he stressed, still led the nation by both tourism revenue and tourist numbers in the first half of the year and has been honored as one of the top 10 leading tourist cities in Asia in 2024. The city has completed the formulation of a green growth policy framework until 2030, with a vision to 2050.
Mai took pride in the vibrant and meaningful diplomatic activities that international friends have collaborated with the city to implement over time. These have made significant contributions to promoting the city’s image, attracting international resources for socio-economic development, and enhancing the city’s international standing and reputation.
So far this year, the city has received more than 30 high-level foreign delegations, including heads of state from multiple countries, and held nearly 100 foreign guest receptions focused on sustainable economic development cooperation, climate change response, smart city development, and the implementation of key city projects, he added.
In September this year, the city will hold the second Friendship Dialogue and the fifth HCMC Economic Forum, which he said are large-scale multilateral and economic diplomacy events. Notably, the city will establish the Center for Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF).
