HCMC – The HCMC Department of Construction has submitted a feasibility study to the city government for a build-operate-transfer (BOT) project to upgrade National Highway 22, including the construction of seven overpasses at major intersections, with work expected to begin in the second quarter and be completed in 2028.

The project, covering more than eight kilometers from the An Suong intersection to Ring Road 3, will pass through Trung My Tay Ward and Ba Diem, Hoc Mon and Xuan Thoi Son communes. The road will be expanded to a 60-meter cross-section, including four central lanes designed for speeds of 80 km/h and six side lanes for 60 km/h.

Seven overpasses will be built at key intersections, including Nguyen Anh Thu, Ly Thuong Kiet–Nguyen Van Bua, Nguyen Thi Soc–Nha Vuong, Vong Cung Tay Bac–Le Thi Ha, Tran Van Muoi–Ba Trieu, Nguyen Thi Nuoi, and Duong Cong Khi–Le Loi. Each overpass will have four lanes to separate traffic flows and avoid conflicts at crossings.

The total cost is estimated at nearly VND4.2 trillion. The project will apply electronic toll collection without barriers. Toll rates are proposed at VND2,100–12,000 per kilometer for 80 km/h lanes and VND1,470–8,400 per kilometer for 60 km/h lanes, while mixed-traffic lanes will remain toll-free.

In parallel, two other components funded by the state budget will be implemented. Compensation, resettlement and technical infrastructure relocation in Ba Diem, Hoc Mon and Xuan Thoi Son are estimated at VND6.23 trillion, affecting around 1,362 households and requiring site clearance of about 16.6 hectares. Another component, costing around VND7 billion, will relocate technical infrastructure in Trung My Tay Ward.

National Highway 22 is a key corridor linking HCMC with the Moc Bai international border gate in Tay Ninh but currently has a road width of 36–40 meters and faces frequent congestion and traffic accidents.
