HCMC – HCMC has spent over VND9.1 trillion (US$400 million) on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, including VND4.1 trillion from the city’s budget and more than VND5 trillion from other sources.
According to a report recently sent by the city government to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, some 292,000 migrant workers have left the city for their hometown due to the pandemic, especially during and right after the stringent social distancing period.
Up to now, the city has received more than VND6.7 trillion in aid for the Covid fight, including over VND1 trillion in cash, medical supplies worth over VND4.1 trillion, social welfare bags worth VND786 billion, as well as Covid vaccines, food and necessities.
The city has set up 31 field hospitals for Covid quarantine and treatment with over 44,000 beds and some 6,000 doctors and nurses.
In addition, in 2021, the city supported 7.4 million people affected by the pandemic. The aid amounted to over VND12.8 trillion, including over VND10.5 trillion from the city’s budget and some VND580 billion from the State budget.
The city has administered over 14 million Covid vaccine doses so far, with some 6.9 million people having received two shots.
According to the report, HCMC has reported over 489,000 Covid cases, the most in the country. More than 302,000 Covid patients in the city have fully recovered, while some 19,000 people have died of the disease.
