HCMC – The HCMC People’s Council has approved an investment policy for a section of the embankment project along Thanh Da canal in Ward 25, Binh Thanh District.

The 478-meter embankment project, managed by the Binh Thanh Construction and Investment Project Management Board, is estimated to cost over VND651 billion, funded by the State budget. Construction work is set to begin this year and conclude by 2027.

In addition to the embankment, a 16-meter-wide, 500-meter-long road (D9) will be constructed, connecting to the existing Tam Vu Street under Kinh Bridge.

An initial Thanh Da canal embankment section (1.1) was completed in 2007 and put into use a year later. Currently showing signs of deterioration, the embankment section is prone to waves, currents and tidal impacts, causing subsidence and affecting nearby houses.

The HCMC People’s Committee has stressed the importance of investing in such projects to combat riverbank erosion, particularly in areas prone to subsidence and landslides. The goal is to ensure the safety and stability of residents while enhancing transportation infrastructure, urban planning, environmental renewal, and landscape improvements as part of the city’s urban planning efforts.
