HCMC – The HCMC government will seek to develop new public parks covering at least 10 hectares plus two hectares of public green space this year, according to a plan just issued by the municipal government.

Under the plan, the city’s government asked 21 districts and Thu Duc City, which is under the jurisdiction of HCMC, to map out detailed plans for the investment and development of public parks and green spaces in their areas this year.

For projects already approved to tap public investment in the 2021-2025 period, the investors were told to implement investment procedures in line with prevailing regulations and complete and put into service projects scheduled for completion in 2022.

The districts and Thu Duc City were asked to review and list public land plots zoned for park development that are being leased or used for other purposes. They would then have to report their lists to the HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment, which will make a proposal to the city’s government to redeem these plots to build parks.

Besides, the municipal government tasked the districts and Thu Duc City with planting new trees and caring for the existing ones in their areas.

Earlier, the HCMC government had passed a scheme to develop public parks and trees in the city during the 2021-2030 period to increase the green coverage rate and create a green, clean, and beautiful city landscape. Under this scheme, the city is set to develop a minimum of 150 hectares of public parks, and an additional 10 hectares of public green spaces.
