HCMC – HCMC will hold a respect-paying ceremony for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee on July 25 and 26, according to an announcement from the HCMC People’s Committee.

The ceremony will take place from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 25, and from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 26. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. on July 26.

During these two days of national mourning, government agencies, organizations, businesses, schools, hospitals, and armed forces will fly the national flag at half-mast with a black band. Public entertainment activities will be suspended on July 25 and 26.

Local governments of the provinces and cities in the southern region are required to register their attendance by sending a registration or contacting the HCMC People’s Committee directly by phone before 10 a.m. on July 24, so that the funeral organizing committee can arrange a time slot.

For the public and delegations attending the ceremonies, formal and dark-colored attire is advised. Attendees should not bring wreaths, fruits or incense. Individuals should carry only a black band with white lettering that includes the name of their organization to attach to the wreaths prepared by the organizing committee.

On July 20, Vietnam announced a state funeral and two days of national mourning in honor of the Party General Secretary, with his body lying in state at the National Funeral Hall at No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.
