HCMC – HCMC will begin construction work on at least one logistics center before Vietnam marks the day when it was reunified 50 years ago (April 30), according to local media reports.

The project is part of a larger plan to transform the city into a key national and regional service hub. The announcement was made during a year-end conference on January 7, organized by the People’s Committee and Department of Industry and Trade of HCMC.

Bui Ta Hoang Vu, director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that the logistics center is expected to enhance economic connectivity and coincide with celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.

HCMC’s economy showed signs of recovery in 2024, with the index of industrial production growing by 7.3%. Retail sales amounted to VND565 trillion, a 10.6% year-on-year rise. Export revenue also rose by 10.6% to US$46.97 billion, while imports climbed 9.8% to US$60.7 billion.

The Department of Industry and Trade attributed these gains to improved business stability, market diversification, and initiatives promoting regional links, social welfare, digital transformation, and administrative reforms.

This year, the department plans to strengthen logistics infrastructure by connecting key economic centers, launch a rooftop solar power program for public buildings, and begin work on an international exhibition center.

Logistics and high-value services are seen as critical components of HCMC’s vision to become a modern economic hub. The logistics center project represents a foundational step in achieving this goal.
