HCMC – HCMC will need thousands of part-time and seasonal workers for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet), which begins in mid-February, as many workers in the city will return to their hometown during the country’s biggest holiday of the year.

According to the HCMC Youth Employment Services Center (Yes Center), there will be many part-time and seasonal job vacancies such as waiters, cashiers, gift wrappers, delivery men, chef assistants, salesmen at supermarkets, security guards and housekeepers.

The salaries would be VND25,000-50,000 per hour or VND6 million per month on an average and other allowances during the holiday.

Nguyen Van Sang, deputy director of Yes Center, said the center is working with many companies that offer more than 2,000 part-time and seasonal jobs during Tet.

Saigon Co.op has over 2,000 vacancies, while Pou Yen Vietnam is recruiting some 2,000 workers. The Big C supermarket chain and the WMC Group are also recruiting more than 100 workers each.

Ngo Phan Ha Chau from the HCMC Students Assistance Center said the center is offering more than 3,000 jobs for students during Tet. They will be paid VND20,000-50,000 per hour or VND160,000-300,000 per day.

Many universities in the city such as the HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry, the Banking University of HCMC and the University of Science are also implementing a number of programs to help students get part-time and seasonal jobs during the holiday.

Some experts warned that students and workers should only contact prestigious job centers to avoid being swindled.
