HCMC – The total number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 in HCMC in the year to date has reached 89,547, including the latest 1,742 recoveries announced today, August 23, according to the HCMC Center for Disease Control.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed a total of 178,557 infections in the city so far, with 429 of imported and 178,128 locally infected.

More than 35,400 active cases are under treatment in the southern city. Of them, 2,096 are children aged under 16, 2,519 are severely ill and on ventilators, and 19 on ECMO support. Also, 321 new Covid deaths were reported on the same day.

The city has not reported any new infection clusters.

The city is carrying out a mass testing drive in extremely high-risk areas. Local residents will be provided with rapid test kits for self-testing under the supervision of health workers in a bid to speed up testing to detect silent carriers of the coronavirus in the community and thus slow the spread of the virus.

The city is also setting up pop-up healthcare stations and coordinating with local rapid Covid response teams to monitor and take care of Covid patients at home. The city’s health authority will equip the stations with medical supplies and provide first-aid bags to patients who are currently under home isolation and treatment.
