HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 50 new locally-transmitted cases this afternoon, May 21, with Bac Giang still reporting the most of cases at 45, Hung Yen recording two cases, while Hai Duong, Dien Bien, Hanoi had one case each.
All of the 45 fresh cases in Bac Giang were linked to industrial parks that had been locked down earlier, the ministry added.
The latest and fourth coronavirus wave, since April 27, has seen 1,836 locally-infected cases in the country, with Bac Giang remaining the biggest coronavirus hotspot with 728 infections, followed by Bac Ninh with 378 cases.
In a related development, the competent forces in HCMC this morning locked down a 300-meter-long road section in Phu Nhuan Market located in the city’s Phu Nhuan District as it was linked to a Covid-19 suspected case. Medical workers were sent to the scene to collect samples of people being present at the place at that time for Covid-19 testing as well as disinfect the place.
Duong Van Chien, director of the Phu Nhuan District Medical Center, confirmed that the local healthcare force was implementing contact tracing and collecting samples of those remaining in the market, reported VnExpress.
A local official said that 25 households with 96 residents and 12 market stalls with 26 traders had their samples taken.
The suspected case lives alone and leased part of the house to two others to open a coffee shop. The case was sent into quarantine.
