HCMC – Squadrons of helicopters and fighter jets took to the skies over downtown HCMC on the morning of April 22 in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of south Vietnam and the reunification of the nation.

The aircraft departed from Bien Hoa Airport and flew over District 1, continuing a series of practice sessions that began earlier this month.

This marks the second time helicopters have carried giant flags of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the national flag into the city. The previous flag-flying drill took place on April 18.

Around 9 a.m., 10 helicopters flying in formation are seen over Ba Son Bridge and the Saigon skyline
The formation included 10 Mi-series helicopters flying over the Saigon River in a 3-4-3 arrangement, each maintaining a 30-meter spacing. At an altitude of 350 meters, the helicopters carried flags measuring 19 square meters, stabilized by a 120-kilogram counterweight
